Union and Jove

 

Description: 

Behind Lichtenberg lies Union and Jove that are connected by a saddle.  This makes for a nice combo ski or there are some other stashes off both peaks if you know where to look.  The price of entry is a 3 mile approach on the Smith Brook road however. The real line here is the perfect south facing slope off Jove.  Its a nice big open pitch.  It is south facing and a good slide angle so I'll only venture there in low avy days.  Though the North side is known to have some pow stashes which I have yet to explore. I've ventured to Union a few times but have only done the full tour once with Eric Docktor back in like '09.  When all was said and done I was exhausted and we just beat the daylight back to the car.  We had mostly breakable crust, but the more sheltered slopes of Jove provided some nice boot-top pow. Fun looking back at the video to remind myself of just how much we've improved over the years, as we just getting into the whole backcountry at the time.
