Crystal Mountain has excellent Backcountry, both accessed from the lifts and from skinning up around the resort. I've only been here a few times.  One great location is Pickhandle basin. It has some really nice open bowl skiing as well as various gladed slopes from 400' - 1200' that can help to avoid days with higher avy danger.
